What is a STAR smog check?
California’s STAR program identifies stations that meet additional state performance standards. Some vehicles are specifically directed to a STAR station on their DMV renewal notice.
How do I know whether I need one?
Review the notice sent by the California DMV. If it says “STAR station required” or similar wording, select a STAR-certified facility.
What should I bring?
